Every September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month is recognized around the world. Cancer is the number one fatal disease in children, and every day 43 families hear the devastating words “your child has cancer.” Unfortunately, childhood cancer receives only 4% of the National Institute of Health’s annual budget.

• In their commitment to serving others in need, the City of Miami Police Department has partnered with the Live Like Bella_® Childhood Cancer Foundation to create a Miami Police Department Childhood Cancer Awareness Badge.

• The Live Like Bella_® Childhood Cancer Foundation is committed to being a recognized leader in childhood cancer research and advocacy, while providing financial and emotional support to families whose children are battling cancer. In 2013, Live Like Bella_® was established in memory of Bella Rodriguez-Torres, a young girl who passed away at the age of ten (10) after a long battle with cancer. During her six-year (6) fight, Bella inspired people around the world to live with compassion and serve others.

• To date, the Live Like Bella_® Pediatric Cancer Research Initiative has funded over $26 million in research, making 45 pediatric cancer research trials possible. The foundation provides financial assistance to families in 49 states and 36 countries.

• In an effort to help spread awareness for childhood cancer during the month of September, any interested members of the Miami Police Department may purchase a Childhood Cancer Awareness Badge from the approved retailer, and may be worn during the month of September.
